DRIVER DIES AFTER CAR COLLIDES WITH B-DOUBLE AT MACKSVILLE

A man has lost his life in an overnight accident on the Pacific Highway just north of Macksville. Emergency crews were called to the Lumsden Lane intersection just after 4 o’clock this morning to find a northbound B-Double and a south-bound car had collided head-on. The driver of the car died at the scene. A safety barrier stopped the B-Double from careering into the Nambucca River The driver of the B-Double was taken to hospital suffering shock and for mandatory drug and alcohol testing. The section of highway, which was closed until mid afternoon, is due to be bypassed before Christmas. (***)

GRAFTON FATAL CRASH

A man has been killed in a single vehicle accident at Grafton this morning. Paramedics treated the 24-year-old passenger, but he died at the scene. It’s believed the car left the road and struck a drain. The 18-year-old male driver was taken to Grafton Base Hospital but was later released.

FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN SMASHES TARGET

A campaign to raise much-needed funds for the family devastated by last Friday’s fatal accident near Casino, has been overwhelmed with donations. The gofundme page had hoped to raise $10,000 for the Underhill family, whose four-year-old daughter Elle died in the Casino crash. The fund now has more than $41,000. Family remain by their other daughter’s bedside, at the Lady Cilento Childrens’ Hospital in Brisbane. (NO AUDIO)

UPDATED: TODDLER DIES IN CRASH SOUTH OF TAMWORTH

The young mother involved in a horror crash, that killed her two-year-old daughter and seriously injured her baby boy south of Tamworth, was driving despite having her learner’s licence suspended. The toddler died at the scene and an 11-month-old boy was critically injured, after the car they were travelling in rolled down an embankment along the New England Highway at Willow Tree last night. Inspector George Powderly from NSW Police told reporters in Sydney that the 20-year-old mother had her licence suspended a few months ago. Police are also investigating whether the child was properly restrained. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Crash Investigation Unit at Tamworth on 6768 2890.
