JETS ISSUED WITH SHOW CAUSE NOTICE OVER MERRICK COMMENTS

Football Federation Australia has issued the Jets with a show cause notice, over Ernie Merrick’s criticism of match officials after Newcastle’s draw with the Wanderers, saying he’s breached the national code of conduct. Jets officials will now meet to discuss their response, which must be submitted to the FFA before 5pm on March 1. Newcastle boss Lawrie McKinna has told NBN News that the CEO of another A-League franchise has already offered to pay half of any fine Merrick’s comments may incur. Meanwhile, Andrew Nabbout has claimed goal of the round for his strike against Western Sydney.

GEORGIEVSKI EYES A RETURN AGAINST THE SKY BLUES

There’s more good news for the Jets, with fullback Daniel Georgievski declaring he’s ready to return from a hamstring injury against Sydney on Saturday. The coach has been happy with Jason Hoffman’s effort in his absence. “That gives me the opportunity to make them all compete for a position and that’s the ideal situation, also it gives you good strength off the bench.” Merrick is keen to test his league-leading squad against the A-League champions, but knows Sydney will be a bigger test than Adelaide. “We did enough in second half and end of first half to get a result, and it’s about results during the season but if we performing like that we’re not going to win many games.”
