CYCLE CHALLENGE DESPERATELY NEEDS RIDERS

The call has gone out to all cycling professionals and enthusiasts to slip on their lycra for one of Coffs Harbour’s healthiest community events – the Cycle Challenge. The challenge is on Sunday August 6, and will involve rides for cyclists with all abilities. Starting from Geoff King Oval and heading south to halfway between Urunga and Valla, there will be a 10 kilometre family ride, plus runs of 20, 40, 60 and 100 kilometres for more experienced riders. In a new initiative this year, cyclists under 18 will ride for free.

BIKE PLAN FEEDBACK SOUGHT

A network of bike paths could one day connect¬†towns, transport hubs and shopping centres throughout the Ballina shire. That’s according to Ballina Shire Council’s 10 year draft bike plan, currently on exhibition. The document also details planned safety initiatives and the construction of additional cycle-friendly amenities including bike racks. To have your say, visit council’s website or your local library. NEW RECORD SET FOR CYCLE CLASSIC

Hundreds of cyclists are recuperating after the 56th Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic. Two time winner, Sean Lake lost out to his teammate, Patrick Lane in the 228 kilometre endurance ride, who now holds the record for the race, with a finishing time of 5 hrs 57 minutes and 55 seconds.
