MAN CHARGED OVER ARRAWARRA CRASH

A man has been charged after a crash north of Woolgoolga last week. A 32-year-old woman had to be freed from the wreckage of her car, after it was rear ended on Solitary Islands Way. The 24-year-old driver, who took off after the crash, was charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, negligent driving, and failure to stop and assist. The Corindi Beach man was granted conditional bail. He’ll appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court October 9.   (Vision Only)

PILOT’S SENTENCE UPGRADED ON APPEAL

The sentence of a north coast pilot, convicted of reckless flying, has been upgraded on appeal. John Patrick Crumpton was initially handed a 15-month suspended sentence for causing a 2014 crash, which killed an 11-year-old Murwillumbah girl. However the Court of Criminal Appeal deemed that “manifestly inadequate”, during a hearing in Sydney yesterday. It has now imposed a lengthier sentence of two years and nine months, to be served in the community. (VISION ONLY)

MOTORBIKE RIDER DIES AFTER COLLIDING WITH A TRUCK AT ALSTONVILLE

A motorbike rider has died following a collision involving a truck near Alstonville around midday. It’s believed the male rider had turned from Ballina Road onto the Bruxner Highway and was in the merging lane when the crash happened. He died at the scene. The driver of the truck wasn’t hurt and was taken for mandatory testing. The highway was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.

SECOND MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN 12 HOURS

A motorcycle crash last night marked the second in just over 12 hours on north coast roads. The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was tasked to reports a motorcycle had crashed down an embankment into trees, 5km north east of Mooball. The 68-year-old rider was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition with multiple  injuries. It comes after yesterday morning’s fatal motorcycle crash involving a truck at MacLean. Police have now launched a high visibility operation aimed at lowering the state’s road toll.

WOMAN DIES IN HOSPITAL AFTER HEAD-ON CRASH IN NIMBIN

A woman has died from injuries sustained in a head-on crash at Nimbin yesterday afternoon. Two cars collided on Nimbin Road shortly after five, trapping the 49-year-old for two hours. She was airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where she later died. The other driver, a 42-year-old man, was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for a head injury. Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

COMMUNITY RALLIES BEHIND CRASH VICTIM’S FAMILY

Locals are rallying behind the family of a Lennox Head mother, killed in a crash on the Bruxner Highway last Tuesday. Amanda Nash died after the vehicle she was travelling in collided with an oncoming truck near Alstonville. A crowdfunding campaign launched 4 days ago, has already received over $70,000 worth of donations. Nash is survived by her husband Ryder and 3 year old daughter Bonnie.
