15-YEAR-OLD GIRL ALLEGEDLY APPROACHED IN LISMORE

A man will front a Northern Rivers court after allegedly approaching a child yesterday morning. Shortly before 8am, a 15-year-old girl was walking along Uralba Street in Lismore, when she was approached by a man in a Holden ute. Police allege the man spoke to the girl, and asked her to get in the car. The girl made a phone call and the man drove off. Subsequent inquiries led to the arrest of a 47-year-old man, who was charged with intimidate with intent to cause fear of harm, and breach of bail.

CHILD APPROACHED NEAR COFFS HARBOUR

Police are searching for a man who allegedly asked a young boy if he wanted a lift to school near Coffs Harbour today. Authorities say the 12-year-old was walking along Cavanba Road in Toormina, when an unknown man tried speak to him. The boy ignored him but the man allegedly got in his car, began to drive away then made a u-turn and stopped beside the boy again, asking him if he needed a lift. The child continued to ignore him and the man left. He’s described as being of Caucasian appearance and was driving a maroon Holden station wagon. Police say the vehicle has damage to the driver’s door and yellow number plates.

TWO CHILDREN APPROACHED ON THE FAR NORTH COAST

Police are investigating two separate child approaches in the state’s north recently. About 10.30am on Tuesday, a man approached a nine-year-old girl at a festival in Ballina Street in Lennox Head. He was told to leave the event by organisers. Then around 5pm the same day, a 10-year-old girl was approached by a man at Belongil Beach in Byron Bay. The girl left the beach with her family and the man left the scene. Police believe the incidents are linked. The man has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 60s, 177cm-179cm tall, solid build with grey facial hair. He was seen wearing wooden beads, rainbow-coloured shirt, tights and a black beanie and was seen driving a light grey Volkswagen transporter.

MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGED CHILD APPROACH IN MULLUMBIMBY

Police say an 11-year-old girl riding a bike screamed and rode away when she was approached by a man driving a car in Mullumbimby late yesterday. A bystander who went to investigate was allegedly assaulted by the driver, but was able to detain him until police arrived. A 24-year-old was taken to Byron Bay police station and charged. He was granted bail and will face court later this month.

CHILD APPROACHED AT MURWILLUMBAH

Police are looking for a late-model black Toyota Landcruiser, used in a child abduction attempt near Murwillumbah. Police say a man inside the vehicle grabbed the arm of a 14-year-old boy, riding his scooter along Murwillumbah Street, around 1.30 last Friday afternoon. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

TWO BOYS APPROACHED NEAR COFFS HARBOUR

Police have released an image of a woman they wish to speak to, after two boys were approached near Coffs Harbour yesterday morning. Just before 8:30, the boys were riding their bikes to school along Matthews Parade at Corindi Beach, when they were approached by two people in a light-coloured Holden Commodore. Police say the car drove on to a grassed area behind the boys, before a woman got out and tried to talk to them. The woman is between 20 to 30 years old and has dark shoulder-length hair, possibly with purple streaks. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.

POLICE SEARCH FOR MAN AFTER INDECENT ACT

Police are searching for a man who committed an indecent act in front of a 16-year-old girl on the Central Coast Highway yesterday morning. The girl was walking near Forresters Beach, when a man in a light coloured sedan stopped in front of her and committed an indecent act. The girl noted the licence plate number and police were later contacted. The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 30 years old, with a solid build, short dark hair and a short black beard.

POLICE INVESTIGATE CHILD APPROACH

Lake Macquarie police are calling for public help, after a teenage girl was approached at Cooranbong on Monday afternoon. The 15 year old was walking along Freemans Drive around 2:30pm, when a man stopped his car and offered her a lift. The girl refused, and he drove away. It’s believed the man was driving a bronze or golden sedan. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
