EXTRA EYES ON KEMPSEY SALEYARDS

Kempsey Regional Saleyards are now under the watchful eye of CCTV, in attempt to crack down on livestock theft. Three cameras have been installed at each end of the cattle ramps, to monitor truck movements. LANDOWNERS WARNED ABOUT BLACKLEG

North Coast landowners are being warned, to keep a close eye on their cattle, after several cases of the fatal Blackleg disease were detected across the region. Younger animals contract the disease from eating contaminated feed or soil – common symptoms include lameness, fatigue and anorexia. North Coast Local Land Services recommend farmers regularly vaccinate their cattle and quarantine animals believed to be infected. (VISION ONLY)

REDUCED SPEED LIMIT AFTER CATTLE TRUCK ROLL

A reduced speed limit remains in place at Hexham after a cattle truck rolled late yesterday. Roads and Maritime Services implemented the 60 kilometre per hour limit this morning, with horseback riders on scene rounding up stray livestock. Emergency services were called to the New England Highway. between the Hexham and Tarro bridges, at around 5.30pm. The driver was trapped for a short time, before being rescued. He’s reported to be in a stable condition. Motorists travelling towards Maitland experienced significant delays.
