CANNABIS AND HYDROPONIC EQUIPMENT SEIZED

Police have allegedly uncovered an amount of cannabis and hydroponic growing equipment while executing search warrants at a number of properties in the Northern Rivers. Police raided six properties in Goonellabah, Lismore and Casino yesterday morning. At one address, police say they located four separate hydroponic set-ups, while cannabis plant and cannabis leaf were allegedly found at other properties. Four people, aged between 24 and 54, were charged with a range of offences, including cultivating a prohibited plant, supplying cannabis, and conducting a drug premises A fifth man, aged 61-year-old from Lismore, will also be issued a court attendance notice for drug-related infringements.

ALLEGED ATTACK OUTSIDE GOLD COAST CASINO ENDS IN ASSAULT CHARGES

A staff member of a Gold Coast casino has broken his ankle during an alleged assault this morning. Shortly after 4am, a man was being escorted from the venue on Casino Drive at Broadbeach, when he allegedly punched the 35-year-old male employee. He suffered a broken ankle when he fell to the ground. A 22-year-old Robina man was detained by security until police arrived. He was later charged with grievous bodily harm and will appear in court on Monday.

YOUNG DOG MUTILATED, KILLED AND DUMPED ON FAR NORTH COAST

Information is being sought from the public after a juvenile Kelpie or Cattle Dog cross was found killed and mutilated in suspicious circumstances on the NSW Far North Coast. The 6-12 month old dog was found by local rangers dumped in grassland on Queensland Road in Casino, in the early hours of this morning. The RSPCA was notified, and veterinarians have confirmed the dog had been dead for up to 48 hours when he was discovered. The dog is described as medium sized, standing approximately 50 cms tall, between 15 and 20 kgs. He is a sandy colour, with some white on his belly and black fur under his jaw He is not microchipped and has no signs of a collar or chain.

POLICE OPERATION YIELDS MORE ARRESTS IN NORTHERN NSW

Strike Force Thermal, which targets the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs, has netted more charges in northern NSW. Just before 12.30pm yesterday, police attended a house on Stapleton Ave in Casino, and arrested a 49-year-old man and 34-year-old female. The man was charged with drug supply and granted conditional bail. The woman was charged with a number of offences relating to the manufacture of methamphetamine and knowingly taking part in a criminal organisation. She will appear in court today.

ACTIVE ‘ICE’ LAB RAIDED, FIREARMS AND DRUGS SEIZED, ON FAR NORTH COAST

Two men have been arrested during a raid on a ‘live’ clandestine drug lab used to manufacture ice on the far north coast this morning. The raid in Tenterfield was part of operation Strike Force Thermal, and was one of 7 coordinated raids on properties across 12 hours in the region. Two properties in Casino were targeted, as well as addresses in Tenterfied, Teven, The Pinnacles near Grafton, Tappville, and one other property in South-East Queensland. Firearms and large amounts of cash were also seized in the raids. Strike Force Thermal was set up earlier this year to investigate the manufacture and supply of ice in Casino.

TWO-CAR CRASH CLAIMS A LIFE NEAR CASINO

A 67-year-old woman has died on Christmas Day in a two car crash at Naughtons Gap Road in Casino. The female driver died at the scene, while the driver and passenger of the other car were only treated for minor injuries. The accident takes the New South Wales death toll to 374. Police are urging motorists to stay safe on the roads these holidays.

CASINO DELIVERY GIRL ROBBED OVERNIGHT

Police are searching for two men who robbed a teenage pizza delivery girl in Casino overnight. Armed with baseball bats, the pair accosted her on Albert street around 9:15 – stealing cash before fleeing on foot. Both suspects wore face coverings and are between 160 and 170 centimetres tall, thinly built, and of aboriginal appearance. Anyone with information should contact crime stoppers.

MISSING CASINO CHILDREN FOUND SAFE

Two children who had been reported missing near Casino on the far north coast have been found safe and well. Around 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, the two children were at a park on West Street, Casino, when their mother left them unattended. When she returned about fifteen minutes later, the children, aged ten and four, were missing. A extensive search got underway and at around 9.30am today, the children were found with a family member, believed to be their father.
