CLOSE CALL IN HAMLYN CAR CRASH

A Central Coast man has had a lucky escape, after an elderly woman crashed her car on his Hamlyn Terrace property about 9.30 this morning. Danny Chilvers was mowing the lawn when his neighbour ran off Minnesota Road and up his front yard, missing him by just a metre and smashing into a fence. The couple living next door was also home at the time, the car stopping just metres from the front room. The woman, thought to be in her 70s, escaped uninjured but was understandably shaken. MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN TOMAGO ROAD ACCIDENT

A man in his 50’s is fighting for his life after he was involved in a serious accident north of Newcastle earlier today. According to police, the man was sitting in a boat on a parked trailer late this morning, when the boat was struck by a passing vehicle. The boat has apparently flipped over and careered onto the opposite side of the road. The victim was taken to the John Hunter Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred on the Pacific Highway near the Old Punt Road turnoff in Tomago. Police have established a crime scene. The 18-year-old male driver of the vehicle is also in hospital with minor neck injuries.

SIX INJURED IN LAKE MACQUARIE CAR CRASH

Six people have been involved in a two-car crash at Cooranbong overnight. A 22-year-old woman suffered injuries to her lower legs in the smash – just after seven-o’clock. She was flown to John Hunter Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, while two other passengers were transported via ambulance. Their injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.

CASINO BABYSITTER TO FACE COMMITTAL BEFORE CHRISTMAS

A babysitter, charged over a fatal car crash near Casino last year, which killed the young daughter of a local policeman, will front a committal hearing before Christmas. Courteney Matthews is facing dangerous driving charges, stemming from the incident. She was excused from appearing in Lismore Local Court this morning, where the committal date was set. TWO MEN HOSPITALISED IN NEWRYBAR HIGHWAY SMASH

Two men are recovering in hospital after a single vehicle accident on the Pacific Highway at Newrybar yesterday afternoon. It’s thought the duo’s car struck a guardrail at high speed at around 4PM. Both freed themselves from the wreckage and were stabilised at the scene. One was flown to Lismore Base Hospital in a critical condition – the other was taken there by road in a stable condition. Both southbound lanes were closed for several hours. (VISION ONLY)

CLUNES TRUCK CRASH DRIVER CHARGED

A West Ballina truck driver has been charged with several dangerous driving offences, following a crash near Clunes in February this year. It’s alleged his truck, carrying gas cylinders, crossed onto the wrong side of Bangalow Road before colliding with an oncoming ute. Its driver, a 35 year old Wollongbar Man, suffered serious leg injuries – while the 57 year old truck driver was uninjured. He’ll now front Lismore Local Court in September. (VISION ONLY)

BABYSITTER CHARGED OVER CASINO ACCIDENT

A babysitter is due to face court next month, charged over a road accident east of Casino last December, that left a young girl dead. Courteney Matthews will face several charges, including dangerous driving occasioning death. The 18-year-old was allegedly behind the wheel of a Mazda which collided with a Subaru on the Bruxner Highway, killing four-year-old Elle Underhill. Matthews is expected to face Casino Local Court on July 20. (VISION ONLY)

MOTORCYCLE RIDER KILLED AT MCLEANS RIDGES

A motorcycle rider has been killed when his bike left the road and crashed into a tree at McLeans Ridges. The 20-year-old Lismore man had been travelling south along Cowlong Road when he missed a corner. Investigators believe the accident happened around 8pm last night, but it wasn’t until 10 this morning that police were alerted, after a passing motorist spotted the wreckage.
