SEA WORLD EVACUATED DURING SOUTHPORT SPIT FIRE

Sea World theme park on the Gold Coast has been evacuated after a large brush fire on the Southport Spit threatened the park. Queensland Police declared an emergency situation in the area at 11:00am after Emergency services were called to the blaze about 9:45am. Water-bombing helicopters were brought in to assist 13 ground crews during the peak of the fire. Smoke from the blaze forced the evacuation of Sea World resort and a nearby recreational area as a precaution for a couple of hours. The theme park and resort has since reopened. (Vision only).

BUSH FIRE SEASON ALMOST OVER

Come Saturday, the bush fire danger period will be officially over, but the Rural Fire Service say there’s no room for complacency. It’s reminding the public to change their smoke alarm batteries this Sunday, when they turn their clocks back for daylight savings.
