CHARTER BOAT GUTTED BY FIRE

The fire brigade’s hazardous materials unit is on the site of a boat fire at the Nelson Bay Marina. Thick black smoke billowed over the bay at around 3.30 this afternoon, after the fire broke out on a 10-metre fibreglass fishing charter vessel. No-one was injured, however the cruiser was severely damaged. Pollution booms are being deployed.

FIRE DESTROYS BOAT ON THE GOLD COAST

Police are investigating after a fire destroyed a boat on the Gold Coast this morning. Around 4am, emergency services responded to reports fire had engulfed a boat parked on the street outside of block of units on Balmain Street in Varsity Lakes. The four metre runabout cruiser was destroyed. No one was injured.

FAMILY FLEES BURNING BOAT

A day on the water didn’t quite go to plan for a young family on the Myall Lakes this morning. They’d just left a wharf at Nerong when their boat’s motor exploded in flames. The quick-thinking skipper turned the vessel around and headed for shore, where all five people onboard jumped to safety. The 5.3-metre long boat then burned to the waterline. Four people were treated at the scene for minor burns. It’s believed the explosion was caused by a faulty fuel line.
