20-YEAR-OLD ASSAULTED IN EAST MAITLAND HOME INVASION

A teenager has been charged following a home invasion at East Maitland overnight. Just before 9:30pm, a man and a woman in their 20’s were in their home on Curtin Street, when three men forced their way inside. It’s alleged they assaulted the man by punching him to the ground and kicking him, before fleeing the scene. Police say a fourth man remained outside, and all four men were seen leaving in a silver vehicle. The 20-year-old male victim received minor injuries. Shortly after, police located the vehicle in the car park of a licensed premises at East Maitland. A 19-year-old man was arrested on Molly Morgan Drive and later charged with aggravated break and enter, and resist officer in execution of duty. Police are still looking for the other men involved.

RESIDENTS DETAIN ALLEGED INTRUDER IN HAMILTON BREAK-IN

An alleged intruder has been detained by residents in an aggravated break and enter in a Newcastle suburb overnight. Just after 8 o’clock three people were in their Warrah Street home in Hamilton, when one of them heard noises coming from his bedroom. The 54-year-old man went to investigate, and allegedly found the 58-year-old man standing in the room. The two became involved in a scuffle, with the resident sustaining a cut to the head. Family members then intervened, and called police. The man was arrested and charged with aggravated break and enter.

70-YEAR-OLD DETAINED AT KNIFE POINT IN NAMBUCCA HEADS

An elderly resident has been threatened and detained at knife point on the mid north coast. Around 2pm yesterday, a man entered a home on High St in Nambucca Heads, and threatened the 70-year-old male with a knife. He was then allegedly made to drive to an ATM on Bowra Street to withdraw money, but was able to escape the vehicle and alert police. After a foot pursuit and minor physical altercation, police arrested a 46-year-old man who was later charged with aggravated break and enter, detain for advantage, and use weapon to avoid apprehension. He will appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court today.

COURT FOR TWO MEN ALLEGEDLY CAUGHT STEALING PROPERTY

Two men have been charged after they were allegedly caught stealing property from a Lake Macquarie industrial area. Just after 4am yesterday, a staff member arriving for work on Mayfair Close in Morisset, saw two men inside the property. The employee challenged the pair, who threatened him before fleeing the scene. Police were contacted and following a brief search two men were arrested. The men, aged 23 and 37, were charged with aggravated break and enter.

INTRUDERS ON THE RUN AFTER VIOLENT TWEED HEADS HOME INVASION

Two men in their 50’s have been violently assaulted during a home invasion on the far north coast. Around 9:30pm yesterday, three men forced entry into a home on Russell Way in Tweed Heads South, armed with bats and cutting implements. Two men, aged 52 and a 51, were at the property at the time – both were beaten with the bats The 51-year-old was stabbed multiple times. The intruders then fled the scene. Both injured men were taken to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition.

ELDERLY MAN ROBBED IN WEST TAMWORTH

An intruder has robbed a man in his 90’s during an aggravated break and enter in the state’s north-west. Police say the 96-year-old woke to find another man in his bedroom at around 6pm on Saturday night, at a unit on Gipps Street in West Tamworth. The man stole a wallet and keys before leaving the unit. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police.

70-YEAR-OLD ASSAULTED DURING TAREE BREAK-IN

An elderly man has allegedly been assaulted by two youths during a break and enter on the mid-north coast this morning. Around 12:20am, a 70-year-old man has told police he was in the lounge room of his home on Kalimna Close in Taree, when two males broke into the property. An altercation followed, during which the victim fell to the ground where he was further assaulted. The intruders then fled with a wallet containing cash and personal cards. The occupant was treated by paramedics at the scene for lacerations. The alleged offenders are described as being aged 16 to 17, and were wearing black clothing at the time.

RESIDENT’S NOSE BROKEN DURING BREAK AND ENTER

A man’s nose has been broken during a violent break and enter in Newcastle. Police say it occurred during an altercation between two men at a Tighe Street property in Waratah at around five-o’clock yesterday. The fight broke out after the 56-year-old homeowner confronted an unknown man inside his home. The intruder fled and was last seen on Tighe Street. The victim was treated at Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for a broken nose. Investigations are continuing.
