In the NBN State League, Charlestown City beat Valentine, Weston edged out Lake Macquarie, while Edgeworth won a high scoring clash with Hamilton.
At Broadmeadow, Brady Parker tried to open the scoring with an audacious attempt.
Peter Haynes missed a sitter from in front, the sides remained scoreless at half time.
Koh Satake had the best chance for the Jets, his deflected free kick hit the bar.
Haynes would make up for his miss midway through the second half, he set up Chris Berlin for the opener.
Before teeing up Rhys Tippett, who ensured Broadmeadow stayed on top of the ladder.
HISTORIC WIN FOR NEWCASTLE IN GIRLS HOCKEY

Newcastle has created hockey history today, winning the New South Wales girl’s under 18 title for the first time, beating Parramatta 2-nil in the final.
Newcastle’s own Hockeyroo Mariah Williams scored both goals in the decider.
In this morning’s semi, Williams led the home side to a win over Sydney North.
The visitors equalised early in the second half, but once again, Williams put Newcastle back in front.
A tap-in from Kiahni Abell gave the Novocastrians breathing space, before Georgia Perkins put the result beyond doubt in the final minute.
ORTENSIA BIDS FAREWELL TO RACING AFTER FINAL RUN AT SCONE

Trainer Paul Messara has decided to retire outstanding mare Ortensia, after she finished ninth in the race named in her honour at Scone.
She bows out with Group One triumphs in Australia, Dubai and England.

But Merewether soon found another gear, Sam Bright putting the Greens in front.
When Aiden Kelso crossed the home side was in control at half time.
A second to Bright in the second half ensured a comfortable win for the Greens.
OUTSIDER CLAIMS THE $500,000 GUINEAS AT SCONE

There was a popular win in the $500,000 Inglis Guineas at Scone this afternoon with the Greg Hickman-trained gelding Taxmeifyoucan blowing away the favourites.
Earlier, a close relation to Black Caviar and the recently retired colt All Too Hard, took out the $200,000 Dark Jewel Classic.
