LIGHTING OF FLAME OPENS ANZAC COMMEMORATIONS

And a special ANZAC commemorative service was held in Newcastle this evening.
The great grandchildren of a World War 1 chaplain, had the honour of lighting a new ANZAC Memorial flame at Nobby’s Beach.
Claire and Jacob Ashley-Brown’s great grandfather William, served at Gallipoli as well as the battlefields of France and Belgium.
The flame will be the centrepiece of Saturday’s dawn service.
The RSL sub branch is encouraging members of the public to lay tributes at the site.
