A Newcastle coin dealer’s shop has been hit by thieves, then set alight.
The smash and grab happened in the early hours of this morning, with several thousand dollars worth of collectable coin sets and silver bullion stolen from a window display.
When thieves couldn’t get beyond a security grille, they set fire to the shopfront, causing smoke damage to stock.
The owner expects his Hunter Street business to be closed for several weeks.
