THISTLES GO FOR THREE-IN-ROW

They took the title in 2013.

Then again in 2014.

With virtually the same team, the Lismore Thistles are confident they can do it again.

“It’d be a real important part in their football career to have the opportunity to take three in a row.”

Round one of their campaign kicks off tonight against Ballina.

Their focus – ball retention and quick movement.

They consider themselves a well oiled machine.

“That’s the sort of game we like to play, pretty important that we move the ball quickly so that the opposition can’t be settled.”

Meanwhile, Ballina is almost a whole new outfit after losing six key players at the end of last year.

But their Coach isn’t concerned.

“They’re going to be a team that’s on the improvement throughout the year and by the time the second half of the season comes through they’ll be at the top of their game.”

Their focus tonight will be more possession of the ball, before unleashing their secret weapon – Matty Jefferies.

“Last year he scored about 18 goals for us, I think he was about the fourth highest goal scorer in the competition so we’re very keen to have him back.”

The game kicks off at 7.30 tonight in Lismore.
