TAKE TWO OF CHINESE NEW YEAR

Due to last weekend’s chaotic weather, a belated Chinese New Year will be celebrated tomorrow, with a fireworks show bigger than the Broadwater’s New Year’s Eve display.

Southport will come alive from 3 o’clock with pop-up Asian food stalls, followed by fireworks from the rooftops at nine.

“Chinatown will just get bigger and bigger as it goes through the circle, and of course $15 million Australia Fair project finishes in July so you’ll see more Asian restaurants in there too.”

Council says the markets will be a monthly feature.
