Caves Beach boardrider James McMorland has taken out the Surfest trials for the second straight year, booking a spot in the main event.
After finishing second in his heat and semi, the 19-year-old produced his best when it mattered.
He wound up two points ahead of Margaret River’s Jack Robinson, who impressed earlier in the day with a perfect 10-point ride.
In the womens, it was Wollongong’s Nakia Fleuren who advanced to the main draw.
