WET WEATHER WASHES AWAY PLATE HOPES

Tamworth cricket faced a tough start to the day, after a teenager drove his car onto one of the pitches and got bogged overnight.

Rain then forced the cancellation of the Country Plate semi finals, meaning Cootamundra and The Rail will advance to tomorrow’s decider, knocking the Blue Mountains and Wauchope out.

“It’s extremely frustrating, but that’s life. The way the tournament’s worked is you’ve got seedings, and the top two seeds in a final four go through.”

With the hosts facing elimination from the Country Shield if play doesn’t go ahead tomorrow, the match referee is hopeful of getting on.

“We’re certainly confident of cricket being played tomorrow, based on the forecast. And also tomorrow, we’ve got the Country Shield semi finals being played here at Riverside One and Riverside Two.”
