Newcastle’s triathlon profile is set to get a major boost next year with the inclusion of the NSW Relay Challenge at the popular Sparke Helmore NBN Triathlon.
The inaugural feature event is a three-person relay challenge, a race format that was included in the Commonwealth Games this year and is set to attract competitor’s from the state’s biggest and most successful triathlon clubs.
The race will include a 300 metre swim, followed by a 5 kilometre bike ride and a 1.5 kilometre run, completed by each athlete before passing on to their teammate.
Event coordinator Paul Humphreys is excited at the inclusion of the race to the event’s schedule, especially due to the fact that TriNSW has awarded the relay challenge with state championship status.
‘It is going to be a fast and thrilling event to watch and we have set a course that invites spectators to enjoy all of the race action.’
The Newcastle Triathlon Festival will run from Friday the 27th of March through to Sunday the 1st of February next year.
