FIVE CHARGED AFTER PURSUIT OF STOLEN CAR

Five people have been charged with a string of offences, following the pursuit of a stolen car at Tweed Heads South.

Police pursed the Holden Commodore from Heffron Street into Arkinstall Park around 2am yesterday.

Towards the end of the chase, a 34-year old man ran from the vehicle and allegedly discarded a 9mm Beretta pistol.

A man and a woman, both aged 19, also fled the vehicle and were allegedly in possession of cannabis.

Police allege the 16-year old driver returned a positive breath test of 0.132.

All five will face court on various dates throughout January and February next year.
