PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT CLOSES TO PAVE WAY FOR REDEVELOPMENT

After 23 years of operation, the palliative care unit known as Nioka was officially closed at Tamworth Hospital today.

The service provided personalised care for terminally ill patients.

The building will be demolished next week to pave the way for further work as part of the hospital redevelopment.

“Currently accommodating our palliative care patients in ward three um our medical ward and uh that’s being managed very carefully and very appropriately by Ian Wilson, the nursing unit manager of that ward, and we’ll continue to do so until we move into the new building.”

The new palliative care unit will open in May.
