STATE TO GO HALVES IN NEWRY ISLAND BRIDGE

Bellingen Shire Council won’t have to foot the bill alone
for the recently refurbished Newry Island Bridge near Urunga.

The state government will now cover half of the repair costs.

“The Bellingen Council had to find the money which was about $1.2 million and I was able to approach the minister for Roads and Transport Duncan Gay and we’re now funding $600,000 of that which I think will be a great relief to council,” said Andrew Fraser, Member for Coffs Harbour.

To access the mainland, about 500 residents had to use a charter boat supplied by council during the bridge upgrade.
