New South Wales Premier Mike Baird says he’s determined to fight to legalise medicinal cannabis for terminally ill patients, but admits it would be a stronger case if the nation got on board.
Mr Baird made the comments in his opening address at the inaugural Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium at Tamworth this morning.
During his speech, the Premier also made mention of a local family who helped organise the convention.
The Haslams have led a campaign to legalise the drug, with 24-year-old Dan Haslam using cannabis to alleviate symptoms of terminal bowel cancer.
Over the next two days, the symposium will hear from 12 guest speakers including several Israeli and American doctors, as well as politicians and professors.
