MAN CHARGED AFTER NEWCASTLE DRUG BUST

Newcastle police say they’ve disrupted the local supply of drugs, following the search of two properties yesterday.

The first took place in Darby Street at Cooks Hill where they allegedly found more than $60,000 cash, 1700 ecstasy pills, 290 LSD tablets and 21-grams of a substance, believed to be cocaine.

Police also seized computer hard drives, surveillance equipment and a Holden Commodore which they allege was obtained through proceeds of crime.

A 25-year-old man was arrested and is facing a string of drug-related charges.

Meanwhile a second search was conducted at a property at The Junction, where a 24-year-old man allegedly had a small amount of cannabis seeds and ecstasy pills.

He’ll be issued a court attendance notice for two counts of possessing prohibited drugs.

“Police have been focusing their resources on reducing drugs within Newcastle City area as these types of arrests cause major disruptions to the local drug trade,” said Inspector Dean Olsen.
