HUNTER MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE RECOGNISED

A Hunter mental health advocate has been recognised for her work in the region, being named a winner in the 100 Women of Influence awards.

As director of the Hunter Institute of Mental Health for the past 14 years, Jaelea Skehan has played a key role in developing local, state and national programs to help reduce mental illness and suicide.

“There would be no person living in Australia who has been untouched by mental illness or suicide. I am privileged to be able to work in mental health and suicide prevention and am pleased to see contributions in this area recognised alongside business and other achievements,” she said.

Ms Skehan will join the other winners later this month in Sydney for a gala event, where an overall winner will also be announced.
