Prime Minister Tony Abbott has cut short his trip to Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory to farewell air force personnel who will be deployed to Iraq.
Mr Abbott will arrive in Newcastle this afternoon, to visit personnel attached to the RAAF’s Early Warning Aircraft 2SQN.
The Prime Minister will then travel on to Brisbane’s Amberly airbase from where Super Hornet fighters will also be deployed to the campaign.
600 Defence personnel from across Australia are being sent to help in the fight against Islamic State extremists.
