Police have confirmed the victim of a fatal shark attack at Byron Bay was 50-year-old local, Paul Wilcox.
Mr Wilcox was swimming at Main Beach at around 10:45 yesterday morning, when he was bitten on his right leg by a 4-metre great white shark.
Newcastle lawyer Mark Hickey was one of the first on scene, and despite his efforts performing CPR, Mr Wilcox couldn’t be saved.
All of Byron Bay’s beaches remain closed today.
