The Bureau of Meterology has released a severe weather warning for heavy rain in the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast.
It says a low pressure system is deepening in the Coral Sea, with an associated rain band expected to extend over the north-east of the state.
Rain is expected to get heavier over the lower mid north coast this afternoon, and extend to the north during the night.
It’s likely to be steady rain, with intermittent heavy bursts.
There’s a possibility of localised flash flooding.
