NEW WATER MONITORING SYSTEM FOR EMERGING CSG SITES WELCOMED

A decision by the state government to introduce a new system that monitors water levels at emerging coal seam gas sites has been welcomed by New South Wales Farmers.

Underground water and baseline water profiles will be mapped in the Gunnedah, Gloucester and Clarence Moreton basins.

The data will then be assessed by the state’s Chief Scientist Mary O’Kane.

New South Wales Farmers says the program will improve science-based evidence and transparency in the coal seam gas industry.

Anti-CSG campaigners have also welcomed the move, but want work on CSG sites to be stopped while the research is underway.
