TWO PLATYPUS DIE IN YABBY TRAP

Conservation groups are demanding the Queensland Government restrict the use of yabby traps after the death of two platypus.

The breeding pair drowned in the ‘opera house’ style traps that had be placed in the Nerang River upstream of the Hinze Dam.

Yabby traps are banned in public waterways in other states but still permitted in Queensland.

The groups also want fishermen to consider how their traps could hurt the iconic native animals.
