NEW CLEARING LAWS COMMENCE TODAY

New clearing laws have commenced today, which will make protecting homes within the Tamworth electorate easier leading into the bushfire season.

The changes mean residents in designated areas can clear trees within 10 metres of their home and vegetation, other than trees, can be cleared within 50 metres.

Higher penalties for 18 fire-related offences have also been introduced- including the littering of cigarettes, where fines have doubled from $660 to $1320 during a total fire ban.
