LATE WINTER PRODUCES BUMPER STRAWBERRY HARVEST
A slow start to winter wasn’t just welcomed by those of us who love the warmer weather…
The unseasonal conditions have also produced a bumper strawberry harvest.
More than a tonne of the delicious red fruit was picked at Ricardoes Tomatoes and Strawberries at Port Macquarie on the weekend alone.
It’s the farm’s biggest crop yet.
“We’re still getting the cooler nights and the very warm days, which we all love of course at this time of year, strawberries in particular love cool nights, warm days; it’s great for production and more importantly great for flavour,” says owner Anthony Sarks.
With 130,000 strawberry plants on the go, production will remain in full swing until the New Year.
