TELSTRA JOB LOSSES IMMINENT
August 29, 2012 at 6:00 pm
Telstra’s decision to close its Goonellabah call centre and axe 116 jobs appears to be set in stone.
Lismore mayor, Jenny Dowell met with the company’s Customer Service Director, Peter Jamieson this morning where she learnt the bad news.
“There are no ifs… this is going to close its a fate completed and while there’s a consultation period it really is just part of their requirement. The decision has been made.”
Telstra says it plans to support its workers by funding a job expo session next month.
Redundancies and the opportunity to transfer elsewhere are still on the table.
“They have assured me that all the workers will be looked after including the probationers and including those people who are on leave and due to come back from leave.”
