PACIFIC HIGHWAY REOPENING AFTER FIRE

August 20, 2012 at 4:13 pm

Traffic is moving past the scene of a truck fire at Coolongolook on the Mid-North Coast.

A B-Double semi was destroyed in the blaze at Coolongolook. Several explosions were reported at the height of the fire.

Two northbound lanes and one south-bound lane of the highway have re-opened as salvage work continues.

I was traveling back to Newcastle from Taree and caught up to this not long after it started. What happened to the driver and why did it happen? I got a couple of distance photos of the traffic and the smoke but wasn’t game enough to walk close enough to see anything.
There seems to be a lot of truck fires and crashes along the pacific highway lately..
