NORTHS BEARS 94 – NEWCASTLE MEN 93
CENTRAL COAST 78 – MAITLAND 70
NEWCASTLE WOMEN 76 – NORTHS BEARS 72
The Newcastle men’s side has surrendered top spot, in Waratah basketball, beaten on the buzzer by Norths.
Maitland was below its best against the Crusaders, but there was better news for the Hunters women.
In front by one with a minute to go, the Hunters relied on scrambling defence.
At the other end, Susannah Walmsley iced several free throws to clinch the win.
In the men’s game, the Hunters made a great start, with six players on the score sheet in the first quarter.
Nathan Wilson was a standout, scoring 24 points to go with five boards and three steals, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Bears stealing the win.
