HYDRO CONFIRMS KURRI SMELTER WILL BE SHUT DOWN

It’s the final nail in the coffin for 334 Hunter jobs, with Norweigan company Norsk Hydro confirming it will shut its aluminium smelter in Kurri.
It comes as Opposition Leader John Robertson calls for the creation of a state jobs commission to better protect employment in the Hunter.
