Almost a week after the last tree fell, fig supporters have gathered for a fundraiser.
They held a barbeque and a raffle to raise some of the $7,000 which was needed to get UK aborist Mike Ellison to Newcastle.
“We are really grateful for the contribution that Mike made so we’re happy to have the fundraiser to cover those costs and he certainly did do his best.”
It was also a chance to get together following the failed two-year fight to save the Laman Street figs.
“What most community members are doing is trying to channel their emotions in a positive way and are trying to share the grief.”
