NEW ENGLAND MENINGOCOCCAL CASE

A middle-aged woman is in a serious condition in a New England hospital with suspected meningococcal disease.
The woman’s close contacts have been contacted to receive prescribed antibiotics.
So far this year there have been eight confirmed cases in the Hunter New England Health region and if confirmed, this will be the ninth case.
In 2010 there were 13 cases of meningococcal disease in the Hunter New England Health region.
