Shortly after 8.50pm last night police received a report that a 50-year-old man had fallen overboard from a yacht off Coffs Harbour.
A 42-year-old woman, who was aboard the yacht, activated an EPIRB to assist police in locating the vessel.
Coffs Harbour Water Police conducted a search of the area and were able to locate the yacht at 1am.
About 7am a man’s body was discovered in the water, 10.8 nautical miles east of McCauleys Head, north of Coffs Harbour.
Police have formally identified him as the 50-year-old man from Sydney who had been reported missing the night before.
The yacht was travelling down the NSW coastline at the time the man fell overboard.
The vessel has been towed into Coffs Harbour.
