MINISTER SLAMS COAL LOADER PROPOSAL
December 4, 2010 at 4:36 pm
Minister for the Hunter Jodi McKay has slammed a proposal, to build a coal terminal, at the former BHP steelworks site in Mayfield.
Mining magnate Nathan Tinkler, who has a controlling interest in the company developing the site, is behind the plan.
Ms McKay said, “I don’t support a coal loader on the former steel works site, that site has always been about jobs and investment and diversification of the port, as far as I’m concerned the coal loading activity is around Kooragang, I don’t think the residents around that site would accept a coal loader.”
