A stray dog has savaged a woman who tried to protect her own pet while walking in Horseshoe Bend, near Maitland, last night.
The 59-year-old suffered severe lacerations to her arm and had surgery in John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.
Rangers have been working with police to track down the dog, which ran away with the woman’s Maltese Terrier in its mouth.
