MARINERS MAKE MINCE MEAT OUT OF JETS

The Central Coast Mariners have thumped the Newcastle Jets 3-nil at Gosford overnight, claiming their first win on home soil in five months.

The moment was extra special for defender Andrew Clark, who will retire from A-League football at the end of season.

Meanwhile, the noise surrounding striker Nik Mrdja’s temporary move from the Mariners to Melbourne continues.

Football Federation Australia is now considering changing the rule that allows players to switch clubs at finals time, if their team has been unsuccessful in making the top six.

The current loophole permits Mrdja to play for Victory against Sydney FC in the upcoming minor premiership match, a decision that has outraged the New South Wales-based team.

But the 31-year old has defended his move, saying the option is available to all clubs.
