TROY BAYLISS ON TRACK AT PHILLIP ISLAND

Three-time World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss is preparing for his comeback to racing in the Australian series, this week conducting testing at Phillip Island. At 48, Bayliss admits it’s been an uphill battle. The Taree-bred rider, now based on the Gold Coast, last competed in the Australian Championship in 1997, and he’s under no illusions about his chances.

POSCO RETURNS TO THE COAST

The Central Coast Mariners have announced they’ve signed Jacob Poscoliero until at least the end of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season. He returns to the club after a short stint at Perth Glory. The 27 year old made 47 appearances for the yellow and navy between¬†2014 and 2017. Poscoliero could be rushed into the squad for Sunday’s home game against Western Sydney Wanderers after his transfer was confirmed today.

SIMMONS NO MATCH FOR DELLY’S BUCKS IN THE NBA

It was a battle of the Australians in the NBA today with Milwaukee’s Matthew Dellavedova and Thon Maker overcoming Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons. The former Newcastle junior had his 28th game with at least 10 points, five rebounds and five assists, equalling three other stars in the league, including Lebron James. Dellavedova finished with 10 points as the Bucks won the game by 12.

SANGHA LEADS AUSTRALIA INTO U/19 WORLD CUP FINAL

Australia has qualified for the Under 19 World Cup final following a six wicket win over Afghanistan. Chasing 182, Newcastle’s Jason Sangha came in at first drop, with the Aussies at 1 for 26. With opener Jack Edwards anchoring the innings, Sangha eased his way to 26. “That’s well played. Played it late.” When he was caught and bowled, the side was 2 for 103. Australia eventually won with 12 overs to spare. “We’ve been improving every game so going into the final now feeling really confident whether it’s India or Pakistan, all the boys are looking really keen.” The decider will be held on Saturday.

BIG NUMBERS FOR SIMMONS AS PHILLY BEATS THE BULLS

Australia’s Ben Simmons has responded to being overlooked for the NBA All Star game by leading Philadelphia to a 14-point win over Chicago. The 21 year old produced one of his best all-round performances of the season, wracking up 19 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists. Simmons had a triple double one minute into the third quarter, the quickest a rookie has achieved the feat in 20 years.
