KNIGHTS EDGE OUT STORM IN PRE SEASON TRIAL

Mitchell Pearce has wasted no time stamping his authority on the Knights. Playing his first match since leaving the Roosters, Pearce was pivotal for Newcastle in an upset trial win over Melbourne today… setting up two tries, including one to Kayln Ponga. The Storm kept plenty of their stars on the sidelines, but did play Cameron Munster. Despite reports the club is unhappy with his off-field behaviour, officials say they’re not considering releasing him.

BATKOVIC SIGNS ON FOR ONE MORE SEASON WITH TOWNSVILLE

She said she’d be staying put after another WNBL title.. and today it became official. The Hunter’s Suzy Batkovic has re-signed with the Townsville Fire for one more year. The six-time MVP and current club captain will spearhead the Fire’s title defence next season. In the meantime, she’s also taken up a contract to play in France. The 37-year-old has subsequently ruled out a return to the national side for the Commonwealth Games.

CLEAN SWEEP FOR OUTTERIDGE AND JENSEN IN ADELAIDE

It was a great weekend for Lake Macquarie sailors Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen, at the opening round of the new SuperFoiler Grand Prix series in Adelaide. While other crews struggled to adapt to the high-tempo racing format, the 2012 Olympic gold medallists combined with fellow world champion Glenn Ashby to claim victory in all seven races. Their team, Euroflex, will now take maximum points into the next regatta at Geelong on Saturday.
