PORT TEAMS PROGRESS IN SCHOOLS CUP

St Columba and Hastings Public are through to the next round of the netball Schools Cup after winning their local gala day in Port Macquarie. 15 primary schools from Laurieton up to Kempsey took part, hoping to book a spot in the regional final. “The North Coast finals will be played here at these fabulous brand new courts in Port Macquarie in July, so it’s exciting for Hastings Valley netball, and it’s great to have such a fabulous facility in our area,” Netball NSW Regional Coordinator Gill Cotter said. The action continues tomorrow, with the high school competition.

REBELS OFF TO A FLYING START IN 2017

In the first round of the 2017 Group 2 rugby league competition the two Clarence Valley sides showed they’ll be the sides to beat again this season. The Ghosts trounced Nambucca, Macksville were too good for the Magpies, Sawtell had a solid performance against Woolgoolga and the reigning premiers downed the Comets.

BIGENI DOES PORT PROUD IN SURFTAG

11 years after a car accident crushed his professional surfing dreams, Port Macquarie’s Kiel Bigeni has made an unlikely comeback. Bigeni, who was left with a fused ankle and no shin bone, represented his home club at the national Surftag qualifying event in Newcastle. “Overwhelmed mate, stoked to be with the boys like Scotty Lawrence, Mitchy V and the Howard brothers, it’s really good, really happy to get the call-up” Bigeni said. The five-man team placed ninth overall, just outside the cut off for the Australian Championships.
