A 16-year-old boy who helped rescue a drowning woman from the Clarence River at Grafton earlier this week says he can’t understand all the fuss being made about his brave act. The people of Kempsey have launched a campaign demanding a share of the Federal Government’s new $10-billion health and hospital fund. Members of the Hospital Action Group joined politicians at the Kempsey District Hospital, calling on the government to redevelop the ailing facility.

TRUCK DRIVER KILLED ON PACIFIC HIGHWAY

A truck driver is dead after a crash on the Pacific Highway south of Bulahdelah. The 50 year-old from the Central Coast was carrying concrete culverts to a worksite at Johns River when he lost control after a rounding a bend in the wet. The crash happend just metres from a stretch of highway where three people were killed in a truck crash four years ago.
