MAN CHARGED OVER GLENDALE STABBING

A man will front court today accused of stabbing a 33 year old man in Lake Macquarie yesterday. Police say a fight broke out between the two men, who were known to each other, at a Clare street unit at Glendale around 3pm. It’s alleged a 45 year old man stabbed the other man in the torso several times. The 33 year old was taken to John Hunter hospital where remains in a stable condition. The 45 year old was arrested and taken to Toronto Police station where he was charged with reckless wounding.

PORT STEPHENS OFFICER RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL

A Port Stephens police officer has been released from hospital, after he was hit by a car yesterday. The Senior Constable had stopped an orange Holden Commodore on Nelson Bay Road at Anna Bay and was conducting a random breath test – when two cars collided nearby. The 40-year-old was knocked to the ground and pinned between the vehicles. Fortunately he wasn’t seriously injured…he’s expected to make a full recovery. (VISION ONLY)

TEENAGE BOY KILLED IN SKI BOAT ACCIDENT

A family outing has ended in tragedy, after a teenage boy fell off a ski boat and died at Port Stephens. Emergency services were called to the Williams River at Raymond Terrace at around seven o’clock last night. Police say it appears the 17-year-old fell into the water and went under the boat, while it was making a turn. The 34-year-old skipper and a man skiing behind the boat were uninjured. At this stage police are treating the incident as a tragic accident. (VISION ONLY)

NEWCASTLE MAN MISSING IN QUEENSLAND

Police have released CCTV of a Newcastle man, who’s missing in Queensland. The footage shows Jayden Penno-Tompsett at a roadhouse in Charters Waters in the early hours of New Year’s Eve. The 22-year-old has not been seen since. His family holds concerns for his welfare because he hasn’t contacted them, which is out of character. Police say there is a possibility Jayden is still travelling as part of his original plans, and may not know he’s been reported missing. (VISION ONLY)

SIX WEEK OLD COFFEE SHOP DAMAGED BY FIRE

Workers at a recently opened coffee shop on Manning street, arrived to start their day, only to find the shop filled with black smoke around five this morning. Early reports suggests the blaze started in a fridge at the back of the Komune cafe – which only opened six weeks ago. Police are investigating, however the owners say it’s now just a process of insurance and they hope to get back to brewing coffee as soon as possible. (VISION ONLY)

WOMAN DROWNS AT SNAPPER POINT

In breaking news, a woman has died  at a notorious drowning spot, south of Newcastle.   Police say the 43-year-old was rock fishing with her husband at Snapper Point when she was washed off rocks at around 5:15 this afternoon. It’s believed she wasn’t wearing a lifejacket at the time. The tragedy is the second drowning in the area this week.

POLICE SHUTDOWN NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY

The National Parks and Wildlife Service will block access to Dudley Beach on Sunday afternoon, following advice from police about an unauthorised New Year’s Eve party. The event was being planned on Facebook, with posts indicating people would bring large amounts of alcohol and fireworks. Organisers have since cancelled the party. Police are warning people not to attend, and say they’ll consider other measures such as implementing emergency alcohol free zones and a Public Safety Order, if necessary. (VISION ONLY)
