KNIGHTS CEO STEPS DOWN

Newcastle Knights Chief Executive Officer Matt Gidley has announced he will stand down from his position, effective November 1. Gidley began his commercial tenure with the Club in 2010 as Business Development Manager, before commencing as CEO in 2011. With the Club transitioning to ownership under The Wests Group, Gidley believes the time is right to step down from his position. Gidley will speak to the media in the next hour.

BARRICADE SITUATION IN GLOUCESTER

A man is being treated for burns in hospital after a barricade situation in Gloucester overnight. Just after 9 last night, police attended a home on Denison Street and attempted to speak to a 63 year-old man. He allegedly made number of threats to the authorities outside and just before midnight the house caught alight. When the blaze was put out, emergency services found the man inside suffering from burns. He was taken to Gloucester Hospital and has now been be airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital. A critical incident investigation team will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

TORCHED CAR SPARKS HEXHAM GRASS FIRE

Police are investigating after a stolen car was torched this morning, sparking grass fire on Ash Island at Hexham. Emergency crews were called out to the blaze just after 6am. There was no immediate threat to homes. Firefighters put the blaze out early this afternoon after flames burnt through more than 10 hectares. (Note: no audio)
