DISTURBING CASE OF ANIMAL CRUELTY IN THE HUNTER

The RSPCA is appealing to the public for information with a disturbing case of animal abuse emerging in the Hunter. The animal welfare group has issued an urgent call for information after a severely emaciated dog was dumped at a Muswellbrook pound, last week. The young dog, named Hugo by an inspector, was seized and rushed to a vet where he remains in care. The RSPCA has posted photos of the Hugo, which show his visible rib cage and vertebrae. The group says the dog has no identification but someone will know something. “I would also ask that if someone did find this dog as a stray, that they please come forward to advise where and when the dog was found to assist with our enquiries”, says RSPCA NSW Inspector Russell Jarman. MAN RECOVERING AFTER ALLEGED ANZAC DAY GLASSING

A 24-year-old man is recovering in Gosford Hospital, after an alleged glassing incident on Anzac Day. An argument erupted just after 7.40pm in the carpark of a tavern on Wyong Road at Chittaway, when it’s alleged a 33-year-old punched a man in the face, cutting his cheek. Another 24-year-old man attempted to intervene and was allegedly hit in the face with a schooner glass. The man’s face and upper arm received lacerations and an ambulance was called. The accused was arrested a short time later and charged with reckless wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was granted conditional bail and will appear at Wyong Local Court next month.

POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL CRASH

Police have launched a critical incident investigation, after a man died in a fatal single vehicle crash near Grafton. Officers attended Lillypool Road at Bom Bom at about 8.40pm yesterday, after receiving information about concerns for welfare. A short time later police found a vehicle, which matched the description, crashed into a tree. The male driver was trapped in the car and died at the scene. A crime scene was established and an investigation has been launched. NSW Police says it undertakes critical incident investigations when matters include the possible influence of a police officer or incidents when responses could attract significant public interest.
