TRIBUTES FOR TENNIS CHAMPION PETER DOOHAN

Tributes are flowing for Australian tennis ace Peter Doohan, who’s lost his battle with motor neurone disease at the age of 56. Doohan, from Newcastle, famously took down two-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker in 1987. “A moment which rocked the tennis world and changed forever the life of Newcastle battler, Peter Doohan.” It earned him the title of “Becker Wrecker” – something not lost on the German great, who’s taken to Twitter saying “RIP mate, you were the better player”. Doohan reached a career high ranking of 42 in singles and 15 in doubles and was unbeaten in Davis Cup representation. “Two of the things all Australian tennis players think about is Wimbledon and Davis Cup. TWO DEAD AFTER TRUCK CRASH

Two people are dead after a truck crashed and caught fire north of Gloucester earlier this morning. Police say it ran off the road on Thunderbolts Way at Giro around 4.30am. Motorists are advised Thunderbolts Way remains open, however there is a significant emergency response on-site as the salvage operation begins.

TWO NORTH COAST SUBURBS MAKE SPEEDERS LIST

New South Wales police have named the worst ten suburbs for speeding. During the last financial year,  249,814 people were detected speeding – an increase of 25,661 from the previous 12 months. The ten worst suburbs throughout the state for speeding during the financial year were: 1. Wilton (3066) 2. Mittagong (2256) 3. Mascot (2125) 4. Nabiac (1730) 5. Waterfall (1646) 6. Lawson (1545) 7. Cateract (1544) 8. Coffs Harbour (1531) 9. Bilpin (1471) 10. 2 KILLED IN CRASH ON NEW ENGLAND HIGHWAY NEAR BENDEMEER

A man and a women are dead after their car slammed into a truck on the New England Highway, near Bendemeer in the state’s north west. Emergency services were called just after 1:30pm – it’s believed the Holden sedan crashed into the back of a truck, which had stopped at roadworks. The female driver and her male passenger – both aged in their 60s – died at the scene. The 40-year-old male truck driver escaped injury, and was taken to Armidale Hospital for mandatory testing.
