GOLD COAST POLICE LAY EXTORTION, DRUGS AND WEAPONS CHARGES

Queensland detectives have charged a 31-year-old with extortion, drug and weapons offences, as part of a police operation targeting organised crime. Operation Oscar Pompeii is focused on a Middle Eastern organised crime network, with detectives arresting the man at a Surfers Paradise unit on Saturday. The man faces a range of charges including trafficking and possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of a semi-automatic pistol, and extortion. Police also say the man is part of a syndicate that regularly uses violence as part of their drug trafficking. He remains in custody and will re-appear in court in January. Operation Oscar Pompeii commenced in August last year, and focusses on the alleged trafficking of illicit drugs in the Gold Coast and South Brisbane areas.

GOLD COAST MAN HAS HIS PHONE STOLEN AT GUN POINT

A man has been ordered into a car at gunpoint before having his phone stolen on the Gold Coast. The incident took place on Usher Avenue in Labrador just before 12:30pm yesterday. Police say two men in a white SUV pointed a gun at the man and demanded he get into the vehicle, where they took his mobile phone. He was then threatened again with the firearm and told to exit the vehicle, before the offenders fled the scene. No one was injured during the incident, but anyone with information should contact police.

ROAD SPIKES USED TO APPREHEND MAN AFTER ALLEGED CAR JACKING

A man will face court after allegedly threatening a number of people with a firearm on the Gold Coast. Police say at around 10:30am yesterday, the armed man attended a Meadowbank Drive address in Upper Coomera, and made threats towards a female resident. It’s believed the two were known to each other. A 67-year-old male neighbour intervened and attempted to disarm the man, before a struggle ensued and the man allegedly fled the scene in the female’s car. Police say he then approached a vehcile on Guy Court at Oxenford, and threatened the 18-year-old female driver and her 16-year-old male passenger with the firearm. The pair escaped, and the man drove away in their vehicle. Police were eventually able to apprehend the man after deploying road spikes on the Tambourine-Oxenford Road in Oxenford, at around 11.30am. CONCERNS HELD FOR MISSING 12-YEAR-OLD GOLD COAST GIRL

Appeals are being made to the public to locate a missing 12-year-old girl on the Gold Coast. The girl was last seen at a residence on Leonardo Circuit in Coombabah at around 5am yesterday. Police hold concerns for her welfare due to her age, and because her disappearance is out of character. She is described as around 165cm tall with a fair complexion, brown hair and blue eyes, and was possibly wearing black or white jeans.

19-YEAR-OLD HOSPITALISED IN GOLD COAST ASSAULT

Three men will face a Gold Coast court next month after a man was allegedly assaulted. Just before 3:30am on Monday, police allege the three men punched and kicked a 19-year-old man on the corner of Orchid Avenue and Cavil Avenue in Surfers Paradise. Police accuse one of the men, a 19-year-old from Upper Coomera, of knocking the man unconscious, causing him to fall to the ground. He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital, and has since been released. The man from Upper Coomera has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. The two other men involved, both 21, have been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm whilst in company. The three men will appear in Southport Magistrates Court in December.

OFFICIALS SCHOOLIES CELEBRATIONS WRAPS UP ON THE GOLD COAST

The official week of schoolies for 2017 has concluded with only three male schoolies arrested on three offences overnight on the Gold Coast. 8 non-schoolies were also arrested on 9 offences, relating mainly to drug offences. While official celebrations have ended for Queensland school leavers, a large number of interstate schoolies are expected to begin arriving on the Gold Coast for the next two weeks.

TEEN ARRESTED WHILE ALLEGEDLY HOLDING UP CONVENIENCE STORE

A teenager has been apprehended while allegedly committing an armed robbery at a convenience store on the Gold Coast. Police say the boy entered the store on the Gold Coast Highway in Burleigh at around 6.30pm yesterday, threatening the shop assistant with a torch taser and demanding cash. Police were attending the store on a routine inquiry and took the boy into custody. No one was injured during the incident. A 16-year-old from Tallebudgera Valley, will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
