AUSTRALIAN SISTERS SPLASHED WITH ‘ACID’ IN LONDON CLUB

An Australian model and her sister have been caught up in an acid attack in a London nightclub. Isobella Fraser, 22, was visiting her sister Prue, 20, who works as a nanny in London at the time of the attack. The pair, who grew up in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Dudley, were among 12 people injured at the Mangle Club in East London, when a corrosive substance was thrown onto a crowd. (Isobella Fraser) (Isobella Fraser) Isobella says she “smelled gas” and ran from the building. The the sisters suffered painful chemical burns and have been admitted to hospital. Police say the incident was sparked by a fight and is not terror-related.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER SURFERS PARADISE STAND-OFF

A man, believed to have been armed with a machete, has been arrested after a stand-off with Gold Coast Police that lasted nearly two hours. Around 2:20am, police cordoned off a Surfers Paradise block, after a man in an apartment on Ferry Avenue made threats. The man was taken into custody just before 4am. An investigation into the incident is now underway.

GOLD COAST MOTORIST ALLEGEDLY POSTS 162KM/H IN A 100KM/H ZONE

A motorist has allegedly been recorded speeding at more than 60km/h over the limit on the Gold Coast, as the festive break continues across Queensland. Police have issued almost 1,400 speeding infringement notices as part of the road safety campaign. Police allege one motorist was caught travelling at 162km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Pacific Motorway at Carrara, while another was recorded at 128km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Cunningham Highway at Tarome, west of the Gold Coast. A further 56 drivers have been charged with drink driving after police conducted more than 12,300 Random Breath Tests on Good Friday. In one incident, a 50-year-old woman allegedly returned a roadside breath test reading of 0.277 percent, after crashing a car into a seafood business on Rio Vista Boulevard at Broadbeach Waters on the Gold Coast yesterday. CAR PLOUGHS INTO GOLD COAST SEAFOOD SHOP

Staff and a customer at a Gold Coast seafood shop have escaped injury after a car barrelled into the front of the store this morning. Police say that the car went through the glass front doors and came to rest up against the sales counter just before 11:45am. It’s alleged the 50-year-old female driver from Runaway Bay returned a preliminary breath test reading of 0.277. The woman has was taken to hospital for further testing for drugs and alcohol.

ALLEGED DRUG DRIVER IN COMA AFTER RAMPAGE ON GOLD COAST

A man who allegedly went on a high-speed rampage on Queensland’s busiest highway remains in an induced coma, despite being due to face court. Vito Virzi, 35, was placed in an induced coma due to his level of drug intoxication while allegedly driving in excess of 200km/h on the M1 on Monday. Terrified witnesses filmed the car speeding on the wrong side of the road before a man was tackled to the ground by police at Gaven. Police allege Mr Virzi sped southbound on the M1 from Ormeau, forcing other cars off the road before eventually running out of petrol. “We were terrified, especially because when he came past us he was centimetres from our car (and) travelling that fast,” witness Emily Barr said. DRIVER FORCES VEHICLES OFF ROAD IN GOLD COAST PURSUIT

A driver has allegedly attempted to force police cars off the road in a high speed incident near the Gold Coast today. Around midday, police say a speeding motorist was forcing other vehicles off the road on the M1 between Ormeau and Gaven. The driver also allegedly attempted to force a number of responding police vehicles off the road. The pursuit ended when vehicle ran out of petrol at Gaven. The driver, believed to be in his 30’s, then allegedly assaulted two police officers and attempted to steal a police vehicle, before being detained. He remains in police custody. Two police officers are receiving treatment for minor injuries.

OWNERS OF STOLEN PROPERTY SOUGHT

Police are looking for the owners of stolen property recovered in south east Queensland last week. Power tools, tool boxes, spanner sets, water-blasters, and other trade equipment are among the items recovered during the search warrant that was executed on April 7.
