GOLD COAST ROBBER COMES AWAY EMPTY HANDED

A man armed with a knife attempted to steal cash from a woman on the Gold Coast. According to police, just before 4:30pm on Friday, a woman was taking a money bag to the bank when she was approached by a man on Classic Way in Burleigh Waters. He demanded the bag from the 28-year-old before producing a knife. During the attempted robbery, the bag containing the money was ripped open, with the contents spilling onto the footpath. The man then jumped into the passenger side of an older model black Toyota RAV 4, which was last seen travelling along the wrong side of the road on Christine Avenue. The woman did not sustain any injuries. The man is described as Caucasian in appearance with a fair complexion, approximately 175cm tall, with short light brown hair and a heavy build. …

DREAMWORLD PREPARES TO REOPEN AFTER RIDE TRAGEDY

Dreamworld is preparing to reopen tomorrow, six weeks after four people died at the Gold Coast theme park. Its sister park WhiteWater World will also open its doors again, on what will be the first day of Queensland’s summer school holidays. Kate Goodchild, Luke Dorsett, Roozi Araghi and Cindy Low were killed when the popular Thunder River Rapids ride malfunctioned on October 25. Several key attractions at Dreamworld will remain closed as they are yet to complete a four-tier safety review ordered after the tragedy. Dreamworld will donate $25 from every ticket sale over the weekend to the Australian Red Cross.

MAN ACCUSED OF WEAPON AND DRUG POSSESSION WHILE IN CAR WITH KIDS

A 42-year-old man has allegedly been found in the possession of drugs and weapons, during a Tweed Heads vehicle stop with his two daughters in the car. Police stopped the grey Jeep on Wharf Street at about 3.40pm, and spoke to the man. During a search of the vehicle police allegedly found knuckle dusters, a razor knife, Diazepam, MDMA, Xanax, cannabis, Ice, scales, and a number of items believed to have been stolen. All items were seized for forensic examination and the man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station. The accused has been charged with a number of offences including possessing a prohibited weapon, four counts of drug possession and one count of drug supply.

DANCE-FLOOR ALTERCATION LEADS TO GLASSING ON THE GOLD COAST

Wounding charges have been laid on the Gold Coast following an altercation at a night club. Shortly after 2:15am, police allege two men were inside a licensed venue on Albert Avenue in Broadbeach, when an altercation broke out after they bumped into each other on the dance floor. During the altercation police further allege one man struck the other man in the face whilst holding a glass. A 29-year-old Loganholme man received a large laceration to the left side of his face and was taken to hospital for treatment. A 25-year-old from Coorparoo was charged with one count of wounding in a public place. He will appear in court in January.

POLICE HUNT TRIO AFTER GOLD COAST ROBBERY

Three men are on the run after a robbery on the Gold Coast earlier today. According to police, about 10 o’clock this morning three men wearing balaclavas entered an automotive business on Kendor Street in Arundel. Reports suggest the men forced a 65-year-old male staff member to the ground before tying him up. They then stole money from the victim’s wallet before fleeing in a grey Colorado ute along Brisbane Road. The men are described as being Pacific Islander in appearance with dark complexions, and around 6 feet tall.

OFFICIAL SCHOOLIES CELEBRATIONS END WITHOUT MAJOR INCIDENT

The final night of Schoolies celebrations has passed without major incident on the Gold Coast. The event concluded this morning in Surfers Paradise, with police reporting only eight schoolies being arrested for street and drug-related offences. A further 15 non-schoolies were arrested on 20 offences for public nuisance and drug offences. Despite organised activites for schoolies now ending, a police presence focusing on licensed venues will remain in place over the next two weeks, as a large number of interstate schoolies begin arriving on the Gold Coast.

GOLD COAST MAN THREATENS WOMAN AND CHILD

A man is wanted by police after he threatened a woman and a child on the Gold Coast yesterday afternoon. 48-year-old Darren Windeatt went to a unit on Bottlewood Circuit in Burleigh Waters yesterday, where he is alleged to have physically threatened a 43-year-old woman and a five-year-old girl. The woman and child are thought to be known to the man, but neither were physically injured during the incident. Police believe Windeatt may be armed, and the public is warned not to approach him. He’s described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 175cm tall with a proportionate build, brown hair, hazel eyes and a beard.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL OFFENCES TARGETED AT SCHOOLIES

Police have generally praised the behaviour of students at schoolies celebrations, despite a consistent number of arrests over the weekend. Last night, police arrested 11 schoolies on 17 offences, with eight of the offences being for drug possession. Seven schoolies were issued with liquor infringement notices. A further 23 non-schoolies were arrested on 29 charges, with the majority of arrests relating to public nuisance and drug possession. Drug detection dogs will be used throughout schoolies celebrations, and police want school leavers to act responsibly, stay safe and watch their mates.

CONCERNS HELD FOR MISSING GOLD COAST MAN

Police are appealing to the public to help locate a man reported missing on the Gold Coast. Stephen Naylor was last seen at an address on Katandra Crescent in Ormeau, around 9am on October 2. Police hold concerns for the 57-year-old, as he suffers from a medical condition. He is described as Caucasian with a fair complexion, proportionate build, approximately 170cm tall, green eyes with short light brown hair and walks with a limp. He has a colour tattoo of a tiger on his right chest and a large cherub with wings and roses on his back. Mr Naylor usually dresses in a singlet and shorts, and is believed to be travelling in a blue 2006 Holden Rodeo utility NSW registration BFH39S.
