ONE DEAD AFTER SUSPECTED DRUG OVERDOSE AT BUSH RAVE

A man has died and another two are in a serious condition after suspected drug overdoses at a party on the Queensland-NSW border. The Ubunye festival on Hardgrave Road at Mount Lindesay is believed to have attracted an estimated 500 revellers on New Year’s Day. Emergency services were called to the property around 10.20am after several people became ill. One man was in a critical condition when paramedics arrived, and despite efforts to assist him, the patient went into cardiac arrest and died at the scene. Two other men came forward with symptoms and also went into cardiac arrest. Both were airlifted to hospital in a critical condition. Police are now waiting to interview the event’s organisers.

MAN ALLEGEDLY RETURNS POSITIVE BREATH TEST WITH SON IN THE VEHICLE

A driver allegedly returned a breath test six times the legal alcohol limit on the Gold Coast overnight. As part of the Christmas road safety campaign in Queensland, police intercepted a 44-year-old Labrador man at Witherin, who allegedly provided a reading of 0.3. Police say the man’s adolescent son was a front seat passenger. As officers drove the boy home, the man allegedly exited the police vehicle and became abusive. He’s been issued with a court appearance notice.

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC ASSISTANCE OVER VIOLENT GOLD COAST ROBBERY

Police have released CCTV images of a man they are hoping will be able to assist them in relation to a violent robbery on the Gold Coast earlier this year. Around 6:20pm on November 30, on a man entered a convenience store on Aubrey Street in Surfers Paradise. After asking for cigarettes, the man tried to leave the store without paying, before he struck a male staff member in the face when he attempted to intervene. The 26-year-old staff member suffered bruising to his face. The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 40s, balding with dark hair.

19-YEAR-OLD WANTED OVER ALLEGED GOLD COAST HOLD-UP

Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to in relation to an armed robbery on the Gold Coast just before Christmas. Police allege a man produced a firearm and demanded cash from a 19-year-old male resident at a Rio Vista Boulevard unit at Broadbeach Waters on December 23. The man fled with a sum of money following the hold-up. Police believe 19-year-old Mandal Francis Sellick might have information that can assist them with their investigation. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact police immediately.

ASSISTANCE SOUGHT TO FIND MISSING GOLD COAST MAN

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a 48-year-old man reported missing from the Gold Coast. Martin Barrell was last seen at an address on Regatta Drive in Oxenford around 10:30 in the morning on December 28. Mr Barrell has not been seen by friends or family since, and concerns are held for his welfare as the disappearance is out of character. He is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 185cm tall, of a medium build with short, shaved brown hair.

GOLF BUGGY MISHAP RESULTS IN PASSENGER DEATH ON THE GOLD COAST

Police are investigating a fatal vehicle crash on the Gold Coast, after one of the men involved died of his injuries yesterday afternoon. According to police, around 8:40pm on Monday, a golf buggy with three male occupants was travelling on Bolsena Circuit in Hope Island, when the front seat passenger has fallen out and struck his head on the road. The 21-year-old man was taken to hospital, but passed away yesterday afternoon as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash. The 20-year-old driver and a 20-year-old passenger were not injured.

It’s going to be an extremely hot end to 2016. On NYE a weak change will affect the weather across the Central Coast and southern areas of the NW with showers and storms to develop. The hot northerly winds will continue until New Years Day. The showers and storms will then contract to the NE spreading across the state.

SAFETY BLITZ NETS DRINK DRIVERS ON THE GOLD COAST

The Christmas Road Safety Campaign has continued to net speeding and drink-driving motorists on the Gold Coast. In one incident, a 33-year-old woman was charged after allegedly returning a Breath Alcohol Concentration of 0.252, more than five times the legal limit at Burleigh Heads around 6pm last night. Almost 1,600 speeding motorists were also nabbed across Queensland on day three of the campaign, with one motorist posting 155km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Pacific Motorway at Pimpama. The campaign continues until January 3.

TWO MEN SOUGHT OVER DEATH OF 50-YEAR-OLD ON THE GOLD COAST

Police are appealing for assistance from the public after the death of a 50-year-old man on the Gold Coast this morning. Just before 1:30am, police responded to reports of a man being struck by a vehicle at an address on Rio Vista Boulevard in Broadbeach Waters. It’s understood two armed men arrived at a unit at the address just prior to the incident, with an altercation ensuing. As they attempted to leave, a 50-year-old man was struck by a vehicle. The men then fled the scene in the vehicle, believed to be a newer style black sedan, possibly a Commodore or Camry. A 50-year-old man from Yatala was treated for injuries at the scene, but died shortly after. Police now wish to speak to two men both described as being Caucasian in appearance, around 180cm tall, with a thin build …
